After an incredibly busy season, my husband and I knew it was time to unplug and reconnect somewhere warm, beautiful, and full of culture. We chose Viva Heavens by Wyndham, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort nestled in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic—and let me just say, it was everything.

One of the highlights of our stay was the food—and baby, the food did not disappoint. On our first night, we dined at Blend, the resort’s upscale restaurant. We ordered the pork chop and the chicken drum dish, both beautifully plated and seasoned to perfection. It gave fine dining without the fuss, and the flavors were rich, tender, and soul-satisfying.

The next evening, we switched it up and had dinner at Sofrito’s, which served traditional Dominican cuisine. The spices, textures, and cultural richness in every bite reminded us why we love exploring food when we travel. It was flavorful, authentic, and made with love.

Sip, Sun & Foam Parties

Most of our afternoons were spent poolside, soaking up the Caribbean sun with strawberry daiquiris and martinis in hand from the pool bar. The bartenders were friendly and knew exactly how to mix a drink that keeps the vibes flowing. We even stumbled into a surprise foam party—and let me tell you, it brought out our playful side! Music, dancing, and good energy all around.

Couples Spa & Ultimate Relaxation

Our favorite moment? The 1-hour couples massage in the on-site spa. The ambiance was serene, the service was top-tier, and we left floating out of there like we were on clouds. After months of juggling work, parenting, and everyday life, this was the reset we truly needed.

Adventures Off the Resort

As much as we loved the resort, we couldn’t resist the chance to explore beyond the gates. Our first excursion took us into the lush forests of the Dominican Republic, where we hiked through jungle trails and jumped off waterfalls—yes, waterfalls! It was adrenaline-pumping and absolutely magical.

The following day, we took a guided city tour of Puerto Plata, learning about the region’s deep history, visiting a chocolate factory to see how real Dominican chocolate is made (and taste-tested of course!), and ending the day with a rum tasting experience that was both educational and delicious.

A Newfound Love for Dominican Culture

This vacation wasn’t just relaxing—it was transformative. We returned home not only recharged but with a deeper appreciation for Dominican culture, hospitality, and spirit. Viva Heavens gave us the perfect blend of luxury, adventure, and cultural immersion.
